The story never lets up of the pressure on Superman. This becomes clear when a walk in the park becomes an incident. Superman’s conversation leads into a question of morals with this move. Readers watch as the outcome becomes a larger catalyst than expected. Cracks in the foundation had been forming between the two characters. Superman’s reaction becomes more than realized. After another flashback, the story leads into its’ concluding point. Judging where it appears to be heading, there may not be any good solution for a bad man’s future.

Spiraling from the pages of November 2023’s Transformers #2, the build-up began. What followed were four limited series spotlighting fan-favorites. Each carried its’ own distinct theme and had the fanbase demanding more. Almost a year later, the wait is finally over!

One character that looks to play a much bigger role is Risk. The brief welcome leaves quite the impression. Once that is completed, the pace picks up with no looking back. Williamson hits the gas as the action bolsters into high gear. The closing act brings out the best and worst of an inexperienced team. Stakes have been raised and just wait for what unfolds on the final page! It is a hell of a mic drop.

Reilly and Bellaire steps back into the Joe world after an incredible run on DUKE. The team welcomes readers with a two page splash. From here, members get introduced with present and past panels. The flashback sequences pop with Bellaire’s coloring throughout the issue. It delivers on some insight and reminisce on the past series.

Once panels shift to COBRA, the mood changes. The brooding evil slowly emerges. It caps off with a near full page image of the Commander testing a new weapon. Using the Atomic Skull as the lead-in villain shows off Lois’s skills. Williamson writes her as a determined hero ready to seize the day. The back and forth between the Kents eases readers into the huge return. Knowing the big bad here, it is a true challenge that Lois showcases a quick range of emotions. Williamson throws a big curve in with the Time Trapper during this point. His appearance leads to the mind-blowing final page. There is no doubt fans will have MUCH to say about this shocking reveal.

DAN MORA. Does anything need to be said after that? The artwork is incredible as always. A fantastic two page splash shows off a horrific future where Superman appears to run out of time. Lois’ reactions are subtle but spike up the drama. At this stage, the story changes lanes into the Trapper close. The chapter finishes its’ time with an unforgettable final full page. There’s no way anyone sees that and doesn’t immediately have a reaction!

Once the close comes into focus, the writing leaves readers with a mic drop moment for what lies ahead.

Once that is cleared up, the story starts coming together with the other portion to create something brand new. It also creates something very darker in nature as well. The new landscape shows promise of a sinister backdrop which bodes well for Darkseid. How events leave off prove to be a fantastic mic-drop moment for fans to savor.

Sampere (Heroes) and Craig (Darkseid) are the two main artists for this chapter. Each bring a distinct style to their stories.

The heroes welcome in the promise of tomorrow with a strong two page spread. There are many cameos mixed in to showcase the high level of importance of the new initiative. This is followed up by a strong two page image putting the plan in place. Seeing Booster’s facial reaction connects the sense of hope with readers. It is quickly dashed as Darkseid hits the scene.

The near full page loudly ushers the new threat perfectly. it carries a big fight feel as the chaos begins. Its’ conclusion is gifted another two-page spread ending in a peculiar spot. This leads into the closing pages where everything readers know has drastically changed.

It is directly in line with Craig’s art for Darksied’s new beginnings. The pages are brooding with a sober overtone. Each conflict is portrayed with a blunt and unapologetic feel. This is Darksied at his best. Once he comes across his “prize”, the art locks in the moment with bright coloring . This leads to a huge one page image declaring a new shift has happened. It is a perfect homage to a legendary artist (the late George Perez).

Williamson throws a unique perspective into an already chaotic scenario. For this crisis, readers see Superman cross a line or the greater win. Making Neron the deciding factor plays well for amping up the drama. Its’ fallout dives into Superman’s will to win no matter the cost. This complements the efforts of Lois and company to track him down. The actions also feature both heroes opinions on Magic. It is very well known Superman and Magic do not mix. However, for his partner here, that is her world.

Zatanna is written as challenged to find her identity. The dialogue with her and Supes comes off impactful. She lays out her insecurities and challenges Superman about his Magic ethic stance. This leads into a play when the main antagonist appears. Both heroes make a call which leads into a solid finale. The epilogue brings everything back full circle. One door appears to close but the last page says otherwise and then some.

Campbell presents excellent imagery as the pair enters into the dark side of Magic. The depiction of Neron comes off as everything one would expect when dealing with a devil. This leads into a fantastic two page splash as they travel the Dark Roads. Campbell’s attention to details in this massive piece will have readers glued to the pages.

The latter half of the book is fueled by Superman and Zatanna’s conflicting views. Campbell captures their points of view and drives home the feelings from both. It plays into a solid action sequence before resolving their dilemma. The issue is capped off with a soon to be iconic page of Superman and Lois reuniting. It perfectly brings an end to their quest as they head into the monster crossover finale.

The sense of anger and (to a certain degree) fear start taking over the pages. This theme is very prevalent during the close. It ultimately leaves readers with a jaw dropping ending that fits the broken persona of DC’s biggest hero.

Campbell wastes no time on presenting spectacular images. The opening flashback element bottles up a more light hearted time before ushering into the murky present. Zatanna and Supers are given a full splash page to start their escapades. It starts a bold display of frustration in Clark that won’t escape readers’ thoughts.

The closing act starts off with a well-detailed two page splash. Right before the action begins, the art team mix in some more calmer panels. This quickly fades away as Superman’s impatient behavior takes center stage. Imagery raises the stakes to an all time high. This serves as a solid back-drop to the overall cinema-esque style battle raging on.

The conclusion of conflict is one that hits the mark. Brainiac is displayed with some very key reactions to the action at hand. Once the fallout begins, scenes become chaotic with the pacing. It reflects the time sensitive challenge the heroes are up against. In the aftermath, there are some feel-god moments to close with. However, the final few pages with have readers buzzing to what is down the road (pending Absolute Power).

Sandoval and Sánchez construct a pair of two page splashes that readers won’t want to turn the pages from. It instantly builds the rising action. The art showcases the wide ranges of Brainiac’s emotions. Events take place that disrupt the cold, imposing figure. In its wake lies a broken and unsure figure. The art captures the rage of Superman while gifting Brainiac some knowledge he can’t comprehend.

Williamson quickly establishes the Queen’s long-term plan. The writing speeds into the action with a big set-up. The payoff is met with some added steps before concluding.

The “odd couple” paring of Superman and Lobo shines in this exchange. It gives the audience the “hero” comeback that is needed. The initial battle concludes somewhat quickly though. Some might feel this is underwhelming, but they have to keep in mind, there’s one more chapter left.

The story’s pace causes the focus to go back on Brainiac. With a big group of characters involved, Williamson makes ample time to start wrapping up individual plot points. Shifting gears in this manner works to send the story into a definitive final place.

Sandoval and Mendonca split art duties for the issue with Sánchez coloring. Right from the opening, readers are hit with a massive two page splash of the Brainiac Queen’s plan. This is responded with Lobo making a declaration. The panels transcend to capture a side of him rarely seen: calm and focused.

With another two page spread, the story begins a domino fall into the final act. There will be a full page image that fans will have MUCH to say about involving Lex Luthor. The chapter opens with Man-Bat gloating about his perceived victory. Flying through the Gotham skyline, he has a prisoner in tow. Batman is shackled and along for the ride. This is ended by a flying “R” which hits the chains.

Now freed, The Dynamic Duo is back! Man-Bat’s cult leads an attack but is easily thwarted. In it aftermath, a call is made. Batman continues to go after Man-Bat. Robin is in chase to stop the hundreds of toxic-infected bats flying into the city. Can they save the day yet again?

Readers ride-along as the pair heads right into danger. Pacing ushers the excitement to a steady confrontation. In its’ wake, some loose ends are tied up. More importantly, some other avenues of adventure are left open. None will be more important than the final page reveal. A dark moment in the Wayne family is about to be revisited. Get Ready!

Williamson presents a steady finale to the current arc. Since it's beginning, the series has been anchored by the rebuilding family bond. With this chapter, the pair make great strides forward. Seeing the dialogue with Robin calling the shots was a strong point of change.

The conclusion of conflict was also another highlight. The writing kept things progressing with ease as the pair took the upper hand. It's fallout circles back to their struggles of rebuilding. The moment is poignant as to letting much needed healing starts (however short lived). It's another factor of why this series stands out from the other Bat books.

Art duties are split again which both teams leaving memorable images. De Meo and Niro kicks the story into gear with a gorgeous two page splash. Man-Bat’s depiction here carries a distinct horror feel. This leads into another two page spread that kicks off the final stand in style.

The family gets a quiet moment to regroup after everything via Čižmešija and Locus. Readers see the slow repair of the family’s broken bond via the emotions. It is a fleeting moment due to the set-up for the close, but hits its’ mark. The full page shot to conclude the issue with will most certainly have fans talking after witnessing it.

The company is still recovering from the ordeal involving DUKE. It cannot take another public hit. Seeing that the attacks led to theft, Destro wants swift action. A “clue” has been left behind: Ripper. The dreadnok comes bearing an invite from the Commander to meet up and talk.

Readers watch as Destro, Mercer and a team travel to an undisclosed location. Upon arrival, Destro assesses the seemingly quiet residential neighborhood. Ripper gives fair warning that this whole situation is far from normal. Once a demonstration is given, the Commander makes a grand entrance.

The master manipulator starts his work on Destro. Secrets are revealed on how Commander’s dark vision is coming to life. What is Destro’s reaction to all of this? The conclusion leads into the next phase of a global terrorist organization the likes the world has never seen. It is truly the birth of evil.

However, there is still one party having a vested interest in the Commander’s plans. The parting moment leads readers into a different direction of the Energon Universe which is sure to thrill and delight.

The Birth of Terror. Williamson crafts a defining moment in G.I. Joe lore. Destro’s initial reaction to events plays into his cold presence. Being a man of business, the dialogue reflects his cutthroat tactics. In dealing with a master con man, this shines through in their first meeting.

Commander’s dark charisma shines in these moments. In each issue, the “horror” aspect stands out with no exception here. The audience will enjoy trying to figure out who has the upper hand in the situation. This builds towards a solid finish with Commander’s biggest strength (and weakness) shining in the end. The parting act re-enforces ties with the Energon Universe as a new phase begins.

Milana and Leoni build Destro’s lead-in with a direct two page spread. The tone is controlled anger as Destro gets more information on the attacks. This leads to the dramatic entrance of Commander to their meeting. It conveys the fragile relationship between the pair as they start talking their deal. A moment that will stand out is one involving Dr. Lazlo. It breaks the seriousness for a second, with his facial reactions saying a lot.

The final pages of the Commander’s tale focuses on his new persona. Reactions are mixed until the moment he makes an address. The two page spread cements the new era of terror. With the feeling of dire excitement, the pages will have readers knowing that change has arrived whether the world is ready for it or not.

In space, everyone can hear a punch. Lobo and Superman are throwing down at the Hardcore station. General Chacal offered Lobo to be the new leader of his army of Czarnians. To lock up the “House of Lobo”, The Main Man must take out Superman. Let the fight begin!

During their brawl, Supes tries reasoning with Lobo. He brings up how Chacal is using him. Lobo denies the claims. In this moment, Chacal captures Superman. Chacal gives Superman some fire as a slip of the tongue proves Superman was right. The group brings Superman right to Brainiac’s ship.

On board, Lex Luthor and Supergirl are on the run in Colu, the home city of Brainiac (long thought destroyed). While evading detection, Luthor answers a question looming: Why was he working with Brainiac. The answer isn’t cut and dry, but it’s a Lex answer. An unlikely hero jumps into their path to help save them for now, but is it too late?

The closing moments packs quite the impact. Readers will be in shock and awe of what Brainiac has done. A new factor has entered this equation. It makes an immediate impact, leaving any witnesses knowing that their end is near. Once fans see that final page, there is no doubt events went from bad to worse for Superman.

Chacal’s scheming his its mark. The result becomes more than is bargained for. This is amplified by the conversation with Luthor and Supergirl.

Seeing Lex appear to be concerned for Brainiac’s plans speaks volumes. It all combines for a shocking final act. Once the new entity makes their presence known, the writing leaves no pause for their arrival. It is a brutal conclusion mixed with shocking reactions. Fans will be on edge until the next chapter drops.

The art team gifts readers with gigantic images throughout this issue. Explosive two page splashes back to back sets the Superman and Lobo fight into high gear. It is balanced with the facial reactions of Luthor. While running from Brainiac’s forces, the emotions range from worried to concerned.

Arguably the issue’s stongest work is the closing act. Another two page full splash starts Brainiac’s final plans. The result is treated with a dynamic two page spread. It clearly delivers on the danger and carnage Brainiac has just unleashed. The chapter begins with Batman being held prisoner in a uniquely familiar set-up. It’s a Bat cave, but not his cave. Dr. Kirk Langstrom is the landlord here. Man-Bat is taking his victory lap as Batman assesses the changes since Langstrom’s heroic times.

Meanwhile, Damian and Flatline have entered into a dangerous location: High School. Damian fully believes that Principal Stone is his old trainer from the League of Assassins. Options are limited to get Stone away from the other students. Drastic times call for drastic measures. A fight ensues but not one readers might immediately think.

This leads to a showdown building for a few issues now. Is Principal Stone Mistress Harsh? Shish? Or someone else? The answer starts a domino effect that draws out another big reveal. Readers will have much to break down as things come into focus.

Its’ fallout sends the young hero on a new path. The closing pages builds the danger as Damian closes in on his fathers whereabouts. Once arriving, it is clear to see he has more than he bargained for. The final image speaks volumes as readers brace for what’s coming next.

Williamson gifts a healthy portion of this issue to Damian’s story. The high school times have been a refreshing break from the other Bat books. Seeing Damian actually be a kid instead of Robin will win over readers. The showdowns unfolding clear up some lingering plot points. The pacing keeps events moving without lingering too long for the fallout. Once the final act being, writing hits its’ main points while bowing out on a sold end note for now.

Art duties are spilt with a returning Di Meo and Niro heading up the Batman areas. The introduction to the Bat-Cave 2.0 is presented with an excellent two-page splash. Man-Bat’s gloating comes off as both menacing and leveling up from where he’s been. This is complemented later in the book with another strong two-page spread.

Čižmešija and Lokus tackle the high school. Spotlighting Damian being young and foolish works to kick his story into high gear. The Shush segments get a two page splash that will answer a few points for fans. The art brings out the best of Damian’s reactions to news as he heads into the action. The spilt art teams brought much for fans to be amped up for heading into the promising next chapter.

With Man-Bat nearing completion of his plans, Damian Wayne’s luck appears to be turning with this latest chapter. Williamson gifts fans payoffs for certain plot points with the writing. Lex Luthor and Brainiac converse over Brainiac’s true plans. The conversation is tense with Brainiac not divulging a great deal. Luthor switches topics to the Czarnian role in this scheme. Brainiac stays tight lipped as he knows a fight is about to happen.

The story switches to Superman and Lobo. The unlikely duo is in hot pursuit of the missing Super family members. In their way is the army of Czarnians Brainiac has unleashed. General Chacal seems to have under-estimated the Man of Steel as the fighing unfolds. Destroying their space hogs, the pair escapes.

Meanwhile, Supergirl and Conner Kent have escaped from Brainiac’s holding cell. Being miniature size doesn’t help their cause. Getting some unlikely help, the pair returns to normal size after dodging danger. With a small team in place, they make a run to take over the ship. This fails to succeed as Brainiac confronts them. With prisoners back in control, the unthinkable is revealed.

Readers watch as Brainiac reveals a secret that sends shockwaves. What has the collector of worlds been working on? As for our heroes, the unlikely duo is halted in their travels. A proposal is made that might be the breaking point of Superman and Lobo’s team-up. With a definitive final panel, the direction of events has drastically changed.

There is also a back-up story by Williamson, Mirko Colak, Mike Spicer, and Sharpe that dives into a forgotten Brainiac: Vril Dox of L.E.G.I.ON. Fame.

Williamson plays into the uneasiness between the Main Man and Man Of Steel. At the first exposure, they are working in unison. Lobo’s influence is starting to grow on Superman with his actions. This carries through on their trek to find Brainiac. Once readers think there is a level of loyalty, the writing reflects how this pair is a ticking timebomb from exploding. Once the new offer is made, the match becomes lit.

Brainiac’s time is centered around his goal. The reveal is a monster one knowing the character. Williamson almost makes it a sympathetic gesture by the collector of Worlds. This becomes quickly dismayed as the heroes ignore the reason and continue their fight. The dialogue shows Brainiac back to full form and this spells nothing but a win for readers.

Sandoval and Mendonca welcome in the action with a fantastic two page full splash. Lobo’s reaction to Superman calling the shots makes for a fun break in the story. Readers see this is short lived later in the book. The art captures the Czarnians deviousness as they confront the pair. The closing page tips off how fast things have broken down. It’s a great parting moment to usher in the next chapter.

Supergirl’s mission also delivers on strong panels. The face off with the Doomsday Wolves exemplifies the danger she and Connor wind up in. The return to form is given a solid near full page moment. Its’ following imagery spotlights Brainiac’s reveal. The exposed secret feels like a big event due to the art. It’s a great compliment to the story as it causes a new direction to be taken.

DC’s current Odd Couple walks in thin ice as Brainiac reveals his master scheme in this chapter. Williamson brings out the humor and harsh reality with the writing. Sandoval, Mendonca and Sharpe balance out the big events with fantastic art. This crossover is heading into different routes so hop on board before it’s too late.

With this special, there are three chapters featured:

“Secrets of Czarnia” by Williamson, Galmon, and Sharpe puts the spotlight on Brainiac’s beginnings with acquiring an army of Czarnians.

The story dives into a theme that really hasn’t been explored. The similarities between Krypton and Czarnia are shockingly close. Considering the most famous residents of said planets, it is a wild notion.

Williamson introduces Tribb, Czarnia’s lead strategist as a blunt and direct force. Her conversations with Brainiac demonstrates how impactful knowledge is to both. The fallout of their meeting displays a unique twist leading into the present timeline.

Galmon hits readers with a stunning two page spread showcasing the two worlds in question. The images of Tribb and Brainiac feature their test of will. This leads to a more dire result with the cold Brainiac never flinching. It’s a solid lead into the next story.

“Campaign Headquarters” by Russell, Pugh, Bellaire and Sharpe dives into Perry White’s mayoral campaign.

Anytime we get Bibbo Bibbowski in a book, it’s nothing but win. With Perry facing an upstart rival in Garon Blake, the writing takes a different approach. The questions of Aliens becomes a focal topic due to Brainiac’s actions. The tone is very split with a brooding ugly social mood growing by each page.

This leads to a moment where a line is crossed. The fallout shows how far some have fallen. This is countered by a quieter moment with Bibbo and a young man. The banter reflects the sense of uncertainty of Metroplois. With Superman gone, who fills the void for hope? The conclusion gives an idea that not all heroes need to wear capes.

Pugh captures the ugliness of politics with the back and forth of the candidates. Seeing Blake’s attack unfold, the imagery reflects a tensious social mood. this builds towards a debate where an action is taken with big consequences. The closing moments brings events back to a grounded level. It leaves the reader with a solid reminder of how at the end of the day, hope will always stand up to hate.

“Signal” by Williamson, Ossio, Lokus and Sharpe unveils a confrontation for the ages. Who is the one presence in the entire DCU not backing down to Brainiac? The catalyst for change in the superhero world: AMANDA WALLER!

Williamson instantly creates a explosive situation with these two powerful characters facing off. Waller is known to be a force of her own. Seeing her pitted against Brainiac gives readers a sense of how dangerous she is. The dialogue is unforgiving as neither backs down from their stance. Its’ conclusion leads into a new phase in an already deadly game of power.

Ossio presents Waller in an impactful manner. Being a human with no powers, readers see her stand defiant to the powerful presence of Brainiac. There is an excellent two page full spread announcing the Superman villain’s arrival. This all leads to a closing image that will play a larger role in the fate of the DCU!
